On 13th June 2023, Rosa Chapela and Gercende Cortois, partners from CETMAR and ULPGC, respectively, will represent AquaVitae at the Integrate final project event.
INTEGRATE fosters cooperation for industrial transition towards Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) in the Atlantic Area. Thus, Chapela and Cortois will focus on the IMTA researches made under the AquaVitae framework.
Gercende Cortois leads the land based IMTA experiments from Universidad de las Palmas de Gran Canaria, but she works very close with France Haliotis, whose farm is set in the French Brittany. She will talk about low trophic species in IMTA since algae and abalone are the main species studied in their case study. They also work with sea cucumber and various crustaceans.
Rosa Chapela is the Head of the Fisheries Socio-economic Department at CETMAR. She has been involved in the project from the very beggining as a legal expert in fisheries and aquaculture. Chapela will talk about the project approach in IMTA and also participate in a round table to discuss about IMTA, its benefits and challenges.
