CETMAR representing AquaVitae at AquaFuture Spain 2023.
The AquaVitae partner CETMAR (Spain) attended the II International Aquaculture Fair, AQUAFUTURE SPAIN 2023, in Silleda, in Galicia, an important region for the fisheries and aquaculture sector at the northwest point of Spain. The event took place from 28th to 30th March. A large exhibition centre hosted public and private entities related to aquaculture.
Aquafuture Spain was born in 2022 as a reference point for professionals in the aquaculture sector at an international level. Industry, researchers, policymakers, among others, gathered in this annual event to share experiences regarding technical innovations, market strategies, funding and collaboration.
Over a hundred exhibitors showed their advances in booths and presentations. Different countries from Europe, Morocco or Central America were represented by companies, research projects or administration that work within the sector. CETMAR attended as a public foundation to represent and disseminate the AquaVitae project. The institution shared space with other organisations at a booth set up by the Galician government. CETMAR has been involved in the project since its inception in 2019.
During the fair, CETMAR presented its latest advances and results. This included the MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) which is designed with a holistic vision covering scientific, economic, environmental and legal aspects. It had a great reception among aquaculture master students and some industry representatives that registered to enroll the course, available since April 3rd.
CETMAR also informed about other activities and results of the project, including the AquaVitae Game, created and tested by CETMAR, which will be released in April at the 4th annual meeting of the project, that will be held in Florianópolis, Brazil. The final documentary of the project was also projected, with two versions available in English (the project’s vehicular language) and Portuguese.
AquaFuture Spain was an opportunity to show AquaVitae´s advances precisely in the last year of the project. The event will be an important date for the aquaculture sector in the future. It focused on sustainability and circular economy, two main challenges facing the aquaculture sector, trying to obtain benefits and being environmentally friendly at the same time.
In addition to the technical programme, AquaFuture Spain offered showcookings where attendees could taste some products such as salmon, mussels, algae, among other species.
AquaFuture Spain has become a place to discuss the state of art of aquaculture, share experiences and knowledge, and find opportunities in the international markets.
